2012 Maine Rebels Coaching Staff Announced
With Many Familiar Faces
The Maine Rebels are expecting great things from their 2012 coaching staff.
The Rebels will be lead by 2nd year head coach Jon Bastian. Coach Bastian came on late last year taking over the head
coach position shortly before the start of the season. He is looking forward to being involved from the very beginning this season. Coach Bastian came to the Rebels with an impressive resume which includes several years experience coaching successful high school programs.
Coach Bastian will be supported by an experienced group of assistant coaches.
The Rebels are very excited about the return of coach Andre Lacey. Coach Lacey also has several years experience coaching at the high school level. Coach Lacey’s main focus will be working with the wide receivers and defensive backs.
Returning from last season will be Wayne Aspinall. Coach Aspinall was a great help last year as he wore several different hats. This year Coach Aspinall will be concentrating on coaching and will be responsible for the running backs and line backers. Coach Aspinall has been involved in Oxford Hills football and wrestling youth program for many years.
Making the transition from player to coach this year is Mindy Gilliam. Coach Gilliam was a long time fixture on the offensive and defensive line for the Rebels. Her dedication to being a fundamentally sound player and ability to teach make her a great candidate for the Offensive and defensive line coach.
Also transitioning from player to coach is Gloria Verrill. Coach Verrill has played for the rebels for four years. Her experience coaching various high school varsity sports will help her take on the role as one of the strength and condition coaches. Sharing the duties with her will be John Grimaldi. Coach Grimalidi is a personal trainer in the Scarborough area.
The Rebels are also happy to have Greg Morse and Jim Bouchard as part time volunteer coaches this year. Coach Morse is no stranger to women’s football. He was part of the coaching staff during the inaugural season of the Maine Freeze. However, Coach Morse was unable to finish out the season due to moving to Nebraska to play for the Tri City Diesel arena football team. Coach Bouchard will be working with the Rebels kickers. Coach Bouchard has several years experience as a kicker. He is the special team coach for the Hyde School in Bath and has coached for Southern Maine Raging Bulls. They are both looking forward to what their experiences can bring to the team.
The Rebels this year will have the expertise Bates College Defensive Coordinator Chris Kempton. Coach Kempton will be part of the 2012 coaching staff as a consultant. The Rebels are excited to have Coach Kempton on board to tap into his extensive football knowledge. Coach Kempton was Rebels head coach in 2004 and 2005, with a playoff appearance in 2005.
