Maine Rebels Start Off-Season Workout for Their 10th season
The Mane Rebels will be beginning their off season workouts with the highest number of returning players since the team’s second season. At this time, 19 veteran players have committed to play in 2013, and more may be added in the next few weeks. The Rebels are also on the verge of having the biggest rookie class in team history sitting at 10 rookies, with more being added weekly. “We would like to add 10 to 15 more players to the roster before preseason starts in January” stated owner Ruth Murphy. Also returning is the complete 2012 coaching staff headed by Andre Lacey along with assistants Wayne Aspinall and Mindy Gilliam. Returning to the coaching lineup will be Chad Marcoux to help with special teams and Ty Krol to help with the line.
The Rebels will be celebrating their 10th season, all of which have been spent in the Independent Women’s Football League. The IWFL plays 11 on 11 full contact football, and is played based primarily on NCAA rules. “I love throwing on my helmet and shoulder pads with 10 other friends and playing one of the toughest sports” commented veteran player Victoria Jones.
The Rebels will be kicking off the season in April. They will play four home games and four away, including teams from New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. The IWFL has teams all over the United States; as well as teams in Canada and Mexico.
